Man who kills friend in rage is also Li Gang
AN official in central Henan Province who claimed "I am Li Gang" after being detained by police for hacking a man to death has rekindled public anger after a hit-and-run driver made headlines last month by claiming his father was Li Gang, a senior police officer in neighboring Hebei Province.
The killer, also named Li Gang, was a highway official in Zhengzhou, capital of Henan. He hacked his friend surnamed Ren in the head and legs repeatedly, causing him to die of massive bleeding, a news report in Hinews.cn said today.
When he was subdued by police, Li kept shouting "I am Li Gang," underlying his official position.
His neighbor, who declined to give his name, said Li was intoxicated and had a fierce quarrel with his wife. He went berserk and began to attack his friend Ren who came to mediate between the couple.
The neighbor said Li had been imprisoned before when he was a teenager but was released soon after due to the influence of his father, allegedly a high-ranking official.
