Manager held after mine flooding kills 4, injures 5

FOUR miners died and five others were injured when a colliery in northwestern Gansu Province was flooded last Wednesday. Their manager has been detained for trying to cover up the accident, Xinhua News Agency reported today.
The fatal flooding happened in the wee hours of January 2 in Nanyu County. The tragedy was not reported until local work safety officials received a tip-off which led to the manager's detention, Xinhua said.
Officials are still investigating the cause of flooding at the Jinyuan colliery. It's the second cover-up case involving fatal workplace accidents in China in recent weeks.
A blast inside a railway tunnel in Shanxi Province killed eight workers and injured five others on December 25 but it was concealed by the company for as long as 10 days. Four company officials have been arrested.
