Manager removed from blaze refinery

THE general manager of Dalian Petrochemical in the coastal city of Dalian was removed from his post this week following the plant's second fire in two months, according to a company source.

Jiang Fan has been replaced by Leng Shengjun, former general manager of Daqing Refining & Chemical. Both companies are part of China National Petroleum, a leading onshore oil producer.

The Dalian refinery has been the scene of two fires in the past two months. The latest occurred when a diesel oil tank caught fire on Monday. Hundreds of firefighters fought the blaze for several hours. No one was injured.

On July 16, a fire was sparked by a leak in a distillation device at the Dalian plant. No one was injured.

China National Petroleum is to set up its own investigation team to assist the investigation being conducted by the local government's work safety watchdog.
