Manhunt after boy dies from TCM therapy

A MAN is being sought by police in central China’s Henan Province after an 11-year-old boy died when his throat was cut in a TCM bloodletting therapy.

The boy, Yangyang, died of excessive blood loss after treatment at an unlicensed clinic run by Zhang Liwen, according to China News Service.

His mother, surnamed Lou, said she took the boy to the clinic in Shitun Village after he complained of a sore throat, local news portal www.hnr.cn reported.

“Zhang pressed Yangyang’s tongue with a plastic item, saying he had tonsillitis and needed to let out some blood,” Lou said.

“I saw him taking a knife of about 15 centimeters and cut my son’s throat. Blood immediately spurted out. That was too much and it started to spurt from his nose.

“I told Zhang to stop the bleeding but he said it was fine,” Lou told the website.

“My son felt it so hard that he was kicking the air. In no more than three minutes, my son was dying.”

Zhang called for an ambulance, the website reported, but its doctors said that Yangyang showed no signs of life.

Lou called her husband and brother but by the time they arrived the clinic had been closed.

“I shouted asking for it to open but Zhang’s wife told me to wait 10 minutes,” the brother said.

When he finally got in, he told the website, he found that Zhang had left by a back door.
