Manhunt after thief breaks out
A HUNT is under way for a prisoner who escaped from Yubei Prison in Xinxiang City, central China's Henan Province, on Tuesday.
Dong Yunhai, 23, was serving 14 years for theft and had completed five years at the time he escaped. It is not known yet how he escaped, according to Oriental Morning Post yesterday.
Dong, a native of Henan, is around 170 centimeters tall, of medium build with tattoos on both arms, according to a police circular handed to village communities.
Internet users claimed security on highways to and from Xinxiang have been tightened and checkpoints set up, according to the report. Armed police and prison guards are checking vehicles leaving the Xinxiang area, according to a man whose car was searched.
The prison and Henan Department of Justice declined to comment, according to the report.
Yubei Prison is an institution for serious criminals serving long sentences and boasts comprehensive facilities after it was renovated in 2005, the report said.
