Manhunt for Gansu cop killer

POLICE in northwest China are offering a reward of 100,000 yuan (US$14,600) in the hunt for a vegetable wholesaler who shot dead a policeman called to settle a domestic dispute.

Police have set up checkpoints at major roads in Lanzhou, capital of Gansu Province, and checked every vehicle since the man disappeared after the fatal shooting, Xinhua news agency reported today.

A woman surnamed Liu told police yesterday that her husband Fu Xiaolin, 39, had beaten her with a gun after accusing her of having an extramarital relationship, Xinhua cited close sources as saying.

Policeman Dou Yong, 40, and his colleagues then visited Liu's home in a six-story-building to settle the dispute.

But Fu fired the gun at Dou, killing him, the report said. In the chaos, his wife and daughter escaped from the flat and more police responded, with backup from firemen and medical staff.

After evacuating all residents from the building, police stormed the apartment, only to find Fu had vanished.
