Manhunt for hospital attacker after one doctor dies, three injured
POLICE in north China's Hebei Province are hunting a killer who went to a Baixiang County hospital, chopped a doctor to death and injured three others yesterday morning.
The killed victim was Chang Mengzhi, 61, director of the hospital's ear-nose-throat department. Two other doctors and one patient were injured in the attack but they are now in safe condition, the Beijing News reported today.
Witnesses said the unidentified killer rode a bicycle to the hospital, went directly to the ENT department on the second floor around 11am when Chang was treating a patient. Chang and the patient were chopped by attacker with a knife and Chang died of his wounds.
Police said the man also attacked other two doctors in the hospital before he walked out of the building and rode away.
One witness said the man threw the knife into shrubs near a middle school and disappeared on his electric bicycle.
The paper said the hospital has a police room but no officer was on duty at that time.
Police said the murder attack was probably caused by family conflict but wouldn't give any details as investigation is ongoing.
