Manhunt for rapist-robber who fled from hospital

A criminal who was arrested for raping and robbing nearly 30 people in a 40-day rampage through 13 cities escaped on Wednesday when he was having the physical checkup in a hospital in Qingdao, eastern Shandong Province.
Zhang Haijun, 34, a native of Heilongjiang Province in northeast China, started robbery in neighboring Liaoning Province on February 23 and committed crimes on the run to the south, police said.
The fugitive broke into people's homes, stole valuables and cash, and raped any single woman in the house. He even seriously wounded some victims, Shandong Business Daily reported today.
Zhang has a criminal record and had served 13 years in jail for raping. After he was freed in 2010, he began to rob and rape again, the report said.
Qingdao police apprehended Zhang in Harbin, capital of Heilongjiang on Sunday and escorted him to Qingdao the next day. However, on Wednesday afternoon, he fled from the Qingdao Haici Hospital during his medical checkup, the report said.
Qingdao police have issued an urgent notice for assistance to capture the criminal who is 1.78 meters high, thin and bald.
