Many corrupt officials in poor health, expert says
SIXTY percent of corrupt officials have incurable diseases, said a top health care expert from the Ministry of Health.
The cause of the diseases is usually the high psychological stress incurred by corruption, Hong Shaoguang, the health care expert and a bestselling writer, said recently in Guangzhou.
Hong said the conclusion was backed by an investigation into 16 corrupt officials in China and research by a Brazilian health care organization. The researchers followed 583 corrupt officials in Brazil. After 10 years, more than 60 percent had incurable diseases such as cancers, cerebral hemorrhages and myocardial infarctions, according to a China News Service report.
