Martyrs' memorial moves to make way for tennis
A MEMORIAL zone for more than 200 nameless martyrs in central China will be downsized to make room for tennis courts.
The 240-mu (16-hectare) site in Jingshan County, Hubei Province's Jinmen City, will be incorporated into a new tennis park and the memorial section will shrink to a small area on top of the mountain, today's Changjiang Daily reported.
A memorial pavilion, under which the heroes were buried, will be moved along with their remains.
Jingshan is building the tennis park to host games as part of the annual provincial sports meeting in October, the park's constructor told the newspaper. It will occupy 419 mu at a cost of 170 million yuan (US$24.9 million). Construction has started.
