Math teacher in Shenzhen accused of molesting young girls
A middle-aged math teacher in the southern city of Shenzhen has been detained for molesting children after he was reported to force female students to watch adult videos with him in his office.
The man surnamed Li, a sixth-grade homeroom teacher at the Jingshan Experimental School, has also been fired, education officials in Baoan District said yesterday.
Li’s class was reported to have a total of 65 students. So far, at least four girls, aged 12 to 13, have confirmed being molested by Li, according to the Yangcheng Evening News.
One girl, 12, told her aunt surnamed Ma that Li often asked her to his office on the premise that he needed to educate her not to have puppy love. “He would display some porn videos and force her to sit with him. During the periods, he always hugged her,” the aunt learned.
If the girl refused, Li would threaten to tell her mother about her crush on boys and to kick her out of the school. Li also tried to bribe the girl to be quiet by offering her a mobile phone as a gift, Ma said.
“She said she has been plagued by nightmares in the recent half of the year,” Ma added.
The girl also told her parents that Li often asked one of the girls out when they were having lessons. Li would ask the girl about how babies come into the world and told her that she wouldn’t get pregnant if her sex partner was using condom.
“He had told my niece: ‘Let’s try it (having sex),’” Ma said.
The scandal emerged Monday afternoon when the girl was absent from school in fear of seeing Li, and finally told her family everything. Her angry parents phoned other parents, and found their daughter was not the only victim.
On Tuesday, police took Li away from the school. Li denied the accusations.
But from his computer, the paper found he had searched sexual topics such as whether a 13-year-old girl can have sex and how to prevent girls from getting pregnant without wearing a condom.
The headmaster, Chen Kan, said Li was known as an honest teacher. But the scandal has served as a warning to the school that it needs to step up efforts to educate teachers and students.
The Jingshan Experimental School is a privately owned school offering nine-year education.
