McDonald’s killers all members of sect
THE five people who were detained for beating to death a woman in a McDonald’s outlet in east China’s Shandong Province are members of a heretic sect, local police said yesterday.
The victim, surnamed Wu, was attacked by six people on Wednesday evening in the city of Zhaoyuan after refusing to give them her telephone number.
The assailants, who have been held on suspicion of murder, are members of a sect known as “Quannengshen,” or “Almighty God,” and wanted Wu to join them, police said.
In a follow-up investigation, police found books and other materials related to the sect at the home of the attackers.
Police arrived at the fast-food restaurant at 9:23pm, just four minutes after being alerted to the incident, and caught the suspects in the act. The victim was rushed to hospital but died soon after, police said.
The six suspects are a man surnamed Zhang from Hebei Province, his two daughters and son, and two women, surnamed Zhang and Lu.
With the exception of the boy, who is under the age of criminal responsibility and will be dealt with separately, the suspects were put under criminal detention for suspected murder.
Provincial police authorities vowed to severely punish the illegal activities of heretic sects to protect the safety of people’s lives and property.
