Men halt bullet train's departure in C. China so friend could board
TWO men prevented a bullet train from leaving for nearly half an hour in Hankou in central China yesterday so a friend could make the train, causing the police to intervene and at least 200 passengers to miss their connecting trains, Wuhan Evening News reported today.
At around 11:15am, the D3258 train arrived at Hankou railway station and was scheduled to leave for Wuhan in six minutes. One witness, surnamed Cheng, heard passengers quarreling in the coach No. 4 with train attendants.
“The two men blocked the door since they wanted the train to wait for their coming friend,” said Cheng.
The two men in their forties who were waiting for one companion blocked the doorway for nearly half an hour without apologizing to other complaining passengers.
When police arrived, they reprimanded the men and sent them back to their seats, but there were no reports of the men being detained or otherwise disciplined.
It was not known if their friend made the train.
About 200 passengers on the train planned to transfer to other high-speed trains at Wuhan but were late for their connections. Train officials at the station changed their tickets to later trains.
More time was lost when train staff members had to check the functioning of all train doors after the incident.
