Mental patient held for stabbing 3 wardmates to death with chopstick

A man with mental disease attacked four women with a chopstick at a hospital in central China’s Henan Province. Three of them died after the attack.

The video of the attack was released online by thepaper.cn on April 4.

The attacker, Yang Shitou, was sent to Luoning Dazhong Hospital on February 24. He was given a ward along with other patients with severe mental illness, Luoning County Health and Family Planning Commission said.

The incident happened when Yang was alone — his brother went to buy milk powder, and the caregiver left the ward to go to the toilet at around 8pm. At that time, Yang was tied to the bed by belts.

However, he managed to break free.

He grabbed a chopstick left on the table and attacked the four patients in the same ward. He was subdued by medical staff later.

The video shows Yang repeatedly stabbing his victims with the chopstick. All of them suffered brain injuries.

Yang has been held by the police. The case is under investigation.
