Mercury leads to recall of canned meat in HK
A BATCH of 480,000 cans of luncheon meat was recalled from the Hong Kong market after a buyer found mercury in one tin.
The Hong Kong Center for Food Safety warned residents not to eat Greatwall Brand Chopped Pork and Ham imported from Tianjing Municipality after they received one complaint on July 17 from a customer saying he found silvery droplets inside.
A test confirmed that the drops were liquid mercury, with a total weight of 0.4 gram. The CFS has informed the local distributing agent Yuen Tai Trading Co to recall the batch.
The company has set up a hotline, 25490016, for consumers. The incident is still under investigation.
The recall has started and will only affect products in Hong Kong.
