CHANGSHA in central China plans to spend 22.1 billion yuan (US$3238.7 million) to build the city's first two metro lines by 2015.

The first phases of Metro Lines 1 and 2 are expected to be completed before 2015, according to a press conference held by the city government yesterday.

The first phase of the Metro will have 17 stops along its 22.77-kilometer route. It will run from the Northern Bus Station to Wan Jia Li Road Station in the city's Furong District.

The line will also offer transfer stops to the Zhuzhou and Xiangtan light rail stations.

Construction on Metro Line 2's first phase is expected to start within the year.

The 23.15-kilometer Line 2 will run from the Gao Xin Road Station, in the city's Yue Lu District, to the new Changsha Railway Station, and will have 16 stops.

The line will offer a transfer stop to the Wuguang Highway within the station.

There will be one interchange station between the two lines at Furong Plaza Station.
