Microbloggers help grieving mom

AN Internet campaign has reunited a mother with a lost mobile phone that contained the last voice messages of her son, who died of leukemia.

Police in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region tracked down the phone belonging to 44-year-old street cleaner Wang Guolan after tip-offs from microbloggers, the Shanghai Evening Post reported yesterday.

The phone was said to be a "spiritual support" for Wang, as it contained messages from her son, surnamed Cheng, who had died at the age of 19 last year.

"Mom, do you miss me?" "Mom, don't cry. I love you" were two of the messages said to help Wang cope with the pain of the loss of her son.

Wang was advised to post her story on weibo.com and microbloggers forwarded the post many times with one even offering a reward of the latest iPhone if the phone was returned.

A flurry of tip-offs led police to a man who said he had picked up the phone on the street. When police returned the phone Wang cried, saying her son had come back.
