Millionaires seek mates in glitzy party
EIGHTEEN self-claimed millionaires are paying 180,000 yuan each (US$26,461) to attend a dating party in Guangzhou City where thousands of beautiful women will vie for their attention.
The bachelors must own at least 30 million yuan in assets to join the party while the only restriction for women guests is that they must be beautiful, Information Times reported today.
Application was open to single women around the world and at least 8,000 people in Guangdong Province alone have applied so far. The game has aroused criticism for cheapening love like recent TV dating shows.
At the audition in Guangzhou yesterday where more than 1,000 women queued up, most applicants were screened out for not having a "lucky face" that could help their husband's career, the report said.
A 45-year old millionaire revealed his criteria for a potential date and possible soulmate 鈥 "she must have a very tiny waist."
One applicant surnamed Fang did not hide her interest in the money, but said the men must be highly educated and capable to accumulate such wealth.
The report said many applicants were concerned that the event was only a promotion for the organizer, a major dating Website.
China's State Administration for Radio, Film, and TV has criticized dating TV shows such as "If You are the One" by Jiangsu Television for spreading a spirit of money worship.
