Mini video reveals truth of Qian's death
THE truck driver who rolled over a village leader in a controversial road accident on December 25 in east China's Zhejiang Province was sentenced to three and a half years behind bars.
Yueqing City People's Court made the verdict after a public trial this morning.
Fei Liangyu, the driver, was indicted by Yueqing prosecutors of vehicular homicide that killed Qian Yunhui, a village head who petitioned for years against officials' land abuse, China News Service reported today.
A wristwatch Qian wore on that fatal day was the crucial evidence for the trial. The watch with a video-recording function was presented at the court. The video showed Qian's face in the recording and two minutes later there was the sound of squeaking brakes and car horns. After a few seconds of chaos, the video stopped recording, the report said.
After the accident, Qian's friend Wang Liquan took away the watch and hid it at his home. Later Wang turned the watch to police.
Police in Wenzhou, a city that governs Yueqing, confirmed that Qian was killed in an ordinary traffic accident after rumors said Qian was held down to the ground by four hit men hired by officials in the path of an approaching truck.
