Ministry asks: Fares unfair?
With some passengers complaining that tickets are too expensive, Wang Yongping, Ministry of Railway spokesman, said officials are soliciting opinions about the prices for the Shanghai-Nanjing bullet train.
It's possible the prices will be lowered if the tickets are shunned by the market after a period of operation, he said. "Personally I think the prices are reasonable."
The standard ticket price is 146 yuan (US$21.43), a 56 percent jump compared with the fast trains along the same route. First class costs 233 yuan.
