Ministry sends relief supplies
A WORK group led by Jiang Li, a vice minister of the Ministry of Civil Affairs, has been sent to the quake-hit area. It also involved the China Earthquake Administration, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Public Security and the National Health and Family Planning Commission.
Jiang's ministry has allocated 10,000 tents, 30,000 cotton quilts, 5,000 folding beds and 10,000 sleeping bags to Gansu, while the Gansu provincial government has allocated 5 million yuan (US$830,000) to fund relief efforts.
Central authorities raised the emergency response level from level four to level three yesterday afternoon.
