Minors held for throwing stones at passing cars
POLICE have detained three minors who reportedly hurled stones at passing cars on an expressway near Chengdu, the provincial capital of Sichuan, causing several accidents, including one death, the Chengdu Business Daily reported yesterday.
From late March to mid-April, drivers on the expressway reported being hit by stones on the Jinyin Lake section. A witness, surnamed Mei, reported a rock struck the right side of his windshield while he was driving down the expressway in his SUV. After pulling over, Mei said he found that more than a dozen other vehicles had been hit as well.
Some drivers had suffered injuries to their head and arms. One driver said he saw a boy throwing stones near the highway guardrail.
In one case, a passenger sitting behind the driver was struck in the abdomen by one of the stones and died the next day in Renshou County Hospital.
Police are investigating.
