'Mission: Impossible 5' hits Chinese screen
"MISSION: Impossible - Rogue Nation," the latest installment of the well-known Hollywood spy series started its Chinese release today.
The film which was both a critical and commercial success when it was screening in North America is expected to be a box-office sensation in China.
"China also has a large fan base for the 'Mission: Impossible' series," said Qian Zhijun, a manager of Yonghua Cinema.
"The film's major evening screenings tonight at our cinema are almost full."
Qian said that the film has a chance to dominate the ticketing sales these days. But the release of Hollywood animated comedy film "Minions" on Friday is expected to challenge the film.
Many tickets for the movie's evening screenings tonight at downtown theaters have been bought several days ago by enthusiasts.
Online ticketing website Gewara.com has already sold 200,000 yuan worth of tickets for the movie's screenings this week. Officials from the website said that the film has a robust beginning.
Alex Huang, a local IT worker and movie buff will watch the film with friend.
"Novel hi-tech weapons and equipment in each installment of the series have a big appeal to me," said Huang. "The prestige of Tom Cruise will also boost its performance at the box office."
The film also presents IMAX version in the city to offer more stunning and immersive viewing experience for the spectacular scenes.
This month the film market will witness a fierce competition.
Movie buffs will be offered plenty of highly-anticipated productions, including "Lost in Hong Kong," a sequel to Xu Zheng's 2012 box office hit "Lost in Thailand," South Korean espionage action film "Assassination" and domestic romantic comedy "The Third Way of Love."
