鈥楳istress鈥 accuses official of graft

A CULTURE official from south China’s Guangdong Province has been suspended from work following claims he embezzled state funds to finance his gambling habit and pay for a lover.
The allegations were made against Du Weijun, director of the Duanzhou District cultural bureau in Zhaoqing City, on Saturday by a woman claiming to be his mistress. The unnamed woman said in an online post that she decided to blow the whistle on Du’s illicit activities after he punched her.
She claimed Du persuaded her to be his mistress on the promise he would leave his wife. But on January 16, Du assaulted her in a nightclub, she claimed, and left with another woman.
The woman claimed that as Du’s mistress she was paid 20,000 yuan (US$3,303) a month to cover her living expenses. She also said Du had lost nearly 2 million yuan gambling and had used state funds to open a company.
The woman supported her accusations with pornographic images featuring people she claimed were herself and Du. In other images accompanying the post, a man was shown playing mahjong with a stack of 100 yuan banknotes beside him.
An investigation is under way, but the authorities have yet to find any evidence of wrongdoing on Du’s part, the Southern Metropolis Daily reported yesterday.
Meanwhile, Zhang Chuihua, deputy director of the Hangzhou government office, has been suspended from work after being accused of using his position to attract sex partners.
Zhang is alleged to have used the QQ chat program to entice women into bed with boasts of his status and wealth, the Oriental Morning Post reported.
