Mistress killer convict appeals death sentence

A convicted former government official in east China Zhejiang Province filed an appeal yesterday for a review of his death sentence over killing and dismembering his mistress, reported China News Service today.

Xie Zaixing, 48, chief of the Communist Party of China Ouhai District Committee in Wenzhou City said he did deserved the sentence as he did not intentionally kill Shao Songqiao, with whom he had a nine-year extramarital relationship.

His death sentence was announced on July 27 at the Hangzhou Intermediate People's Court after he confessed suffocating Shao to death under a quilt following an argument with Shao at her home in Hangzhou on November 15, 2009. He then dismembered her body and threw them into a river.

Police found the bags stuffed with body parts and steel weights in the river.
