Mob smash truck in company dispute

ARMED with knives and sticks, a mob of more than 30 people invaded the compound of the Shaanxi Province Forestry Bureau in Xi'an early yesterday and smashed a truck inside.

The attackers, mostly in their 20s, were seen smashing the windows of a concrete mixer truck at a dormitory construction site at 3:31am yesterday before fleeing the scene a minute later, the Chinese Business reported today.

Shaanxi Rongxincheng Concrete Co was believed the target of this attack because of its dispute with Shaanxi No. 8 Construction Engineering Co, the dormitory project contractor.

Wang Baoming, the project manager, said his company stopped business with Rongxincheng in July after finding stones in its delivered concrete.

He confessed that his workers smashed the truck because Rongxincheng parked it at entrance of their construction site to deliberately block the passage.

Rongxincheng general manager's assistant, Ren Jianqiang, admitted that they drove the truck to the site the day before to demand debt payment.

Shaanxi No. 8 Construction Engineering Co said it had paid Rongxincheng 1.2 million yuan (US$ 187,800) and the remaining 500,000 yuan will be paid at the end of September.

Xi'an police have started an investigation into the case.
