Mom diets to donate liver to sick daughter
A SECOND mother in northeast China has jogged and dieted for six months to get her liver in shape to donate to her seriously ill daughter.
Na Xuelian, 46, a retired worker from Anshan City, Liaoning Province, is in Beijing Friend Hospital ready to undergo the liver transplant surgery for her daughter Liu Yujiao, 20, Xinhua news agency reported today.
Last month, a mother in Wuhan, capital of central China's Hubei Province, successfully donated her liver to her fatally ill son after a six-month diet and jogging program to reduce fat on her liver.
Liu was diagnosed with a fatal liver disease a year ago, which could only be cured with a liver transplant. However, they rejected her mother's liver because it was too fat.
Na then ran for five kilometers every day and reduces her weight from 68kg to 60kg in six months. Doctors said her liver is now healthy enough for a transplant.
While exercising, Na also took three part-time jobs to raise the money for the transplant, which could cost 400,000 yuan (US$58,590), Xinhua said.
