Mom prepares to donate kidney to daughter
ANOTHER mother in central China's Hunan Province is exercising every day to get into shape to donate her kidneys to her seriously ill offspring.
Zhang Yuguo, 47, has managed to lose four kilograms to 60kg after climbing 190 floors every day for the past consecutive 10 days at the Xiangya No.3 Hospital where her daughter was hospitalized in the provincial capital Changsha City, today's Rednet.cn reported.
Zhang's 23-year-old daughter Zhu Gengxiang was diagnosed with terminal uremia in March, a fatal disease that could result in kidney failure. In the past three months, Zhu has wasted away to 35kg. Doctors said she needs a kidney transplant to save her life.
Though tests show her mother is a good transplant match, doctors said she should lose weight before carrying out the transplant, Zhang told the Website.
Besides Zhang's health, the family's poverty also stalled the surgery which could cost tens of thousands of yuan, according to Zhu.
Zhang and her husband recycle garbage in their hometown in Huaihua City to support three children.
The other daughter developed serious illness after graduation from university earlier this year and a son suffered mental problems.
To cut costs, Zhu checked out of hospital over the weekend and will undergo dialysis as an outpatient every week. Zhang is looking for a cheap home to rent near the hospital.
Last November, a mother in central China's Hubei Province succeeded in donating part of her liver to her son after walking 10 kilometers a day for seven months to cure her fatty liver.
