Mom still pursuing cops in daughter's rape
THE mother of an 11-year-old girl raped and forced into prostitution in central Hunan Province in 2006 is to impeach two local policemen she claims raped her daughter.
Meanwhile, Tang Hui, who was sent to a labor camp for eight days last August for protesting too light sentences of others convicted in her daughter's case, said she would continue to take legal action for compensation over her detention after the Yongzhou City Re-education through Labor Management Committee rejected her request last Friday.
"I thought I could wait for a fair result after being released from the camp," Tang told an Oriental Morning Post reporter. "I was hurt a second time on hearing the rejection," she said.
Tang said she would not give up her protests. Instead, she will report two policemen to the Hunan Province Politics and Law Commission, accusing them of raping her daughter in 2006.
Tang said she reported the two, surnamed Lei and Liu, to disciplinary watchdogs on March 14, 2007. Her daughter had picked Lei, a policeman in Lingling District, out of 279 photos on March 17, 2007.
"Liu was a Yongzhou traffic policeman. There was no photo of Liu at that time but my daughter could tell his name. They both raped my daughter, but they haven't been punished," Tang said.
Tang told the newspaper that provincial authorities had promised to investigate the case - in which her daughter was forced to have sex more than 100 times in three months.
However, investigators never asked to meet Tang or her daughter. "I don't know if they actually investigated or not," Tang said.
On June 5, a court sentenced two defendants to death, four to life in prison and a seventh to 15 years in prison in the case.
Tang thought some of the sentences were too light and demanded harsher punishments. She also accused local police of a breach of duty in handling the case, asking local authorities to punish them, and demanded compensation.
The mother's protests and petition led to herself being sentenced to 18 months in labor camp last year.
On August 2, Tang was sentenced to 18 months of re-education through labor for "seriously disturbing social order and exerting a negative impact on society." Her detention triggered wide public outrage and she was freed eight days later as the center said her daughter, who was then 17, was still a minor requiring care.
