Mom with baby lives at 24-hour KFC

AN unmarried mother with a 9-month-old baby has lived at a KFC fast food restaurant in Beijing for two months, Beijing Youth Daily reported today.

The mother, nicknamed Xiaoshan, lives at KFC because of her poverty, the report said. She said chose KFC because the restaurant is open 24 hours a day and the staff won’t ask her to leave. “We won’t drive away any customers who stay here the whole night,” a staff member at the KFC told a reporter.

Xiaoshan earns 30 to 40 yuan (US$4.90 to US$6.53) each evening selling things as a street vendor, meaning she has difficulty supporting herself and her daughter.

The 9-month-old baby girl is lovely and most of her necessities have been donated by other helpful customers at KFC, Xiaoshan said.
