More bodies confirm 21 miners dead
TWENTY-ONE miners trapped underground in two flooding accidents late last month in southwest China have been confirmed dead, after more bodies were recovered over the weekend.
Rescuers found two bodies in a flooded coal mine of Guiyang City, capital of Guizhou Province, yesterday morning, a spokesman for the rescue headquarters said.
Thirteen people were trapped when the Fuhong coal mine flooded on May 29. Rescuers had already found three bodies. The rescue spokesman said there was no chance that eight people who remained buried were still alive.
The cause of the accident is under investigation.
Meanwhile, in Dushan County, on the border of Guizhou and the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, eight miners buried in a flooded illegal coal mine on May 31 were confirmed dead late on Saturday when rescuers found two bodies, a county spokesman said.
Six bodies have already been recovered.
