More rewards for hijack crew

HAINAN Airlines today rewarded Flight GS7554 crew members with cash, houses and cars for foiling a hijack attempt last week during a flight over the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region in northwest China.

The carrier, owner of the Tianjin Airlines that operates the flight, rewarded two onboard security guards and the chief attendant with a million yuan cash, a 3-million-yuan-worth apartment and an Audi car each in a ceremony held today.

The three members were seriously injured in fighting six Uygur men who tried to hijack and blow up the plane on route from Hotan to the regional capital of Urumqi on June 29.

The pilot and five other crew members each received 500,000 yuan, a 2-million-yuan apartment, and an Audi car.

The company also awarded all the staff of Tianjin Airlines.

Earlier, the Civil Aviation Administration of China rewarded the crew members a total of 1 million yuan and honored them with "Anti-hijacking Hero" titles. It also rewarded 23 passengers who helped overpower the six hijackers.

The Xinjiang government rewarded the nine crew members 500,000 yuan each and eight passengers 100,000 yuan each.
