More smog for north China
THE heavy air pollution in Beijing and neighboring regions will remain through Monday, the Ministry of Environmental Protection said yesterday.
Central and southern parts of the notoriously smoggy Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region will see light to moderate air pollution on Tuesday and Wednesday, with light pollution forecast for the northern part, it said in a statement, adding that PM2.5 particles will remain the main pollutant.
Meanwhile, six cities neighboring Beijing were among the 10 worst in China for air quality in October, though improvement has been made from the same month last year, according to the ministry.
The six, which include Tangshan and Baoding, are all in north China's Hebei Province.
Jinan, capital of east China抯 Shandong Province, topped the list, whose compilers evaluated conditions in 74 cities across the country.
The ministry said the air quality of the 13 cities in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region met the standard on more than half of the days in October.
