More tainted vegetables found from Hainan

CHINA'S agriculture ministry today urged tighter supervision over cowpeas from southeast Hainan Province after more pesticide-tainted vegetables were discovered in Hubei and Guangdong Province.

Authorities discovered 3.59 tons of cowpeas were tainted with lethal pesticide levels at vegetable wholesale markets in Wuhan, Hubei Province on Monday. The contaminated cowpeas were imported from Lingshui County and Sanya City of Hainan Province, reported China News Service today.

Authorities in Wuhan imposed a three-month ban on selling cowpeas on February 7, saving 25 tons of tainted cowpeas from the market.

Guangzhou's agriculture watchdog also urged local sellers to test cowpeas after it discovered tainted cowpeas at a local vegetable market. Results are due in three to five days, reported Guangzhou Daily.
