More than 2.5 mln Chinese couples divorced in 2010
A report released yesterday by China's Ministry of Civil Affairs said that about 2.68 million Chinese couples divorced in 2010, up 8.5 percent on the previous year.
According to the report on China's social service development in 2010, 2.01 million Chinese couples registered their divorces at civil affairs departments and 668,000 couples ended their marriage in court.
The report also shows that the divorce rate in China has risen over the past five years, with an average annual growth rate of 7 percent.
A total of 12.41 million Chinese couples become registered as married in 2010, up 2 percent on the previous year. Among them, 49,000 marriages were between Chinese mainland citizens and foreigners, overseas Chinese or Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan residents.
