Most popular kindergarten crowds 80 kids in one room

A KINDERGARTEN regarded as the best in Chengdu, capital of southwest China's Sichuan Province, is so popular that about 80 children are crammed into a single dormitory for naps.

An online picture showing part of one of the most crowded dormitories has become a hot topic on Website forums, today's Shanghai Morning Post reported.

Some Netizens described the room as "a forest of beds," as light-blue double bunks are crammed into the room with just a tiny space to squeeze through between beds.

A worker with the No.3 Kindergarten under the Chengdu Municipal Government confirmed to the newspaper yesterday that the kindergarten had to set up more than 40 double bunks in a classroom to accommodate all the pupils.

The worker didn't specify the room size but acknowledged it was more crowded than normal.

"So many people asked to send their children here and many are our superior officials, so we feel unable to decline," the worker said.

There are more than 700 children in the kindergarten and it has set up four such overcrowded dormitories, the worker noted.
