'Most wanted' held over abduction, prostitution

A CRIMINAL on China's most-wanted list was arrested for abduction and forced prostitution, the Public Security Ministry said in Beijing yesterday.
Pan Nianyou, 32, from Sansui County in southwest China's Guizhou Province, was captured in Dongtai City in Jiangsu Province.
From 1995 to 1996, Pan and several others abducted women in his hometown and took them to Xuwen County in southern Guangdong Province, police said.
The suspects said they would provide work for the victims but then forced them into prostitution.
Pan escaped when the crime ring was busted and was made an A-level wanted suspect by the ministry on April 29.
Pan confessed to the crimes during interrogation.
In late June, police launched a nationwide campaign to clamp down on prostitution ahead of National Day targeting individuals or groups who force, tempt, permit or introduce women to prostitution.
About 3,000 child and women abduction cases are recorded and investigated by authorities annually.
In another case, police in central China's Hunan Province yesterday announced a reward of 50,000 yuan (US$7,320) for tips about a suspect who allegedly killed six people on Sunday, including an eight-year-old boy and five women in a beauty parlor in the provincial capital of Changsha.
Police said the suspect had been identified as Zhang Chengyu, 39, from Sangzhi County in the northwestern part of Hunan.
Police said the tall, hunch-backed man spoke the local dialect of Sangzhi.
