Mother blames jab for baby's death
A MOTHER claimed a hepatitis B vaccination killed her 40-day-old baby daughter in south China's Guangdong Province.
But the hospital said the girl died from respiratory failure and proposed an autopsy to determine the cause of death, today's Guangzhou Daily reported.
Nie Huaju, a cleaning worker in Guangzhou, Guangdong's capital city, said she took her daughter to get the second shot for the hepatitis vaccination on Tuesday at Guangzhou's Yuangang Hospital.
But the girl appeared abnormally noisy after the jab and cried overnight.
She took the girl to the hospital the next day for a check up but the girl died in the afternoon. Nie insisted the death was linked to the vaccination, the report said.
She laid the baby's body in front of the hospital to protest, forcing the hospital to almost shut service.
Hospital officials told Guangzhou Daily that the girl died from respiratory failure following lung bleeding. They suggested an autopsy to determine the cause of the death.
