Mother hopes to donate liver to son
A 55-year-old mother in central China's Hubei Province has walked 10 kilometers every day for seven months to get her fatty liver in shape to donate part of it to her sick son.
Chen Yurong managed to cure her liver problems within 211 days, according to Chutian Metropolis Daily today, and is now waiting to see whether her liver will save her son's life.
Her son Ye Haiban has suffered liver problems since he was a boy, and is now married with a child of his own, the newspaper reported.
When his condition worsened last year, Chen offered to donate part of her liver for a transplant but was diagnosed with a fatty liver - hence her heroic effort to lose weight and improve her liver function.
Chen ate only boiled vegetables and a small bowl of rice for her meals every day during her campaign.
Ye is now in hospital waiting for a go-ahead on the transplant, the newspaper said.
