Mother stabs daughter 30 times
A WOMAN faced trial in Beijing yesterday for stabbing her sleeping daughter 30 times, fearing her daughter would kick her out of her house after marriage.
Liu Xixiang, 53, admitted intentional injury at Chaoyang District Court yesterday. She asked for a lenient sentence, saying she suffered temporary insanity when hacking her 25-year-old daughter Xiao Xue at 6am on July 27 last year.
However, Xiao Xue said the court should convict her mother of attempted murder because she suffered cuts totaling 140 centimeters in her face, neck, arms and legs.
After the rampage, Liu locked her in the room and left without an attempt to treat her wounds, ignoring her daughter's tears, the court heard.
Her daughter asked Liu for 240,000 yuan (US$3,5294) in compensation. She lost her job in a supermarket and had to live on relatives, reported Beijing Times today.
Xiao Xue's father committed suicide soon after his marriage with Liu in the 1980s. Liu remarried and gave birth to a boy. After several quarrels, Liu divorced her second husband in 2005 and began living with Xiao Xue.
Liu was said to have badly treated her daughter because her husband wanted a son instead.
Liu suspected her daughter and boyfriend surnamed Wang would try to steal her house after they told her they decided to marry last July.
The rampage broke out after Liu had a quarrel with Xiao Xue that night.
The court didn't hand down a verdict.
