Mountain ropeway suspended for upgrade

TRAVELLERS will not be able to reach the glacier park atop the Yulong Snow Mountain, or Jade Dragon Mountain, in southwest China's Yunnan Province, for six months as the ropeway leading to the park is upgraded.

The upgrade, expected to be completed before November, will increase the ropeway's capacity from the current 420 persons per hour to 1,200, today's Oriental Morning Post reported.

New fees have not yet been revealed. The ropeway is the highest in China, at 4,500 meters above sea level.

During the repairs, travelers can still follow tracks through the mountain forest.
