Move ties forward, says Xi
CHINESE President Xi Jinping, who was on a state visit to Vietnam, yesterday called on both countries to enhance high-level strategic communication to move bilateral ties forward.
He made the remarks during talks with Vietnamese President Tran Dai Quang in Hanoi.
Xi said the two countries face challenges of reform and development at a time of profound and complicated changes in international and regional circumstances.
They should consolidate the steady growth of bilateral trade and speed up alignment of their development initiatives — the China-proposed Belt and Road initiative and Vietnam’s Two Corridors and One Economic Circle plan, Xi said.
He said both should promote cooperation in key areas such as infrastructure, production capacity and the cross-border economic cooperation zone.
The two sides should increase input in people-to-people exchanges, and carry out such exchanges so as to enhance mutual understanding between the two peoples, particularly between the young.
China and Vietnam are socialist neighbors and important cooperative partners, and the fate of both their peoples are closely bound up with the same political systems and development goals, Xi said.
The Communist Party of China and the Chinese government attach great importance to bilateral ties with Vietnam, will adhere to the fundamental policy of developing friendly relationships and will commit themselves to strengthening comprehensive strategic cooperation between the two countries, he said.
Quang said Vietnam highly values the achievements of China’s economic and social development and its contribution to peace and prosperity in the region and the world at large.
