Movie ticket prices too expansive, driving away audience
THE high prices for movie ticket has kept many people outside the cinema as statistics showed Chinese people go to cinema only once in five years, while an American enjoy nearly six movies a year.
A ticket costs 36.38 yuan (US$ 5.31) on average in China last year, which accounted for 5 percent of the Chinese people's monthly wages, compared with the 0.25 percent in the United States, said Li Yizhong, the dean of the Department of Cinema and Television of Shanghai Jiaotong University.
With movies goers totalling nearly 70 million in China, the movie market yielded over 6.2 billion yuan last year, up 42 percent from the previous year. The revenue is expected to reach 10 billion yuan this year, reported today's China Youth Daily.
