Multi-million-dollar steel loop project just an eye feast?
A 157-meter-high steel loop that costs nearly a hundred million yuan is taking shape in a small town in Fushun City of northeast Liaoning Province, the Shenyang Evening News reported.
Dubbed the "Ring of Life," the giant building is designed by the same architect in charge of the design of the Oriental Pearl TV Tower in Shanghai, the newspaper reported.
The ring is equivalent to a 50-floor building in height and has used 3,500 tons of iron and steel to build. Workers have installed 12,000 LED lights on the structure.
The paper said the developer initially intended to add a bungee jump platform, but gave up the idea because the ring is too high for bungee jumpers, said a local construction bureau official surnamed Li.
Li told the newspaper that the town wanted to put up a landmark office tower on the spot of the ring but the town is too small to support such an office building. After abolishing three plans, the developer settled on the design of the "Ring of Life."
Eventually, the costly building would be carrying no function but being a feast for the eyes only, triggering challenges from some Netizens who blame for such a wasteful project.
