Mum, daughter admit to vaccine scam
A MOTHER and daughter yesterday pleaded guilty to charges of selling vaccines without a license in Shandong Province, according to a local court.
The mother, Pang Hongwei, was accused of illegally buying and selling vaccines, such as rabies vaccines, between June 2013 and April 2015, according to a statement from the Intermediate People’s Court of Jinan City, capital of Shandong.
Pang improperly stored the vaccines she bought, and she earned 74 million yuan (US$11 million) in sales from the operation, the court heard.
In 2009, Pang was sentenced to three years in prison with a five-year probation period for the same crime.
Her daughter, Sun Qi, assisted her.
Sun has been implicated in the sale of vaccines worth over 42 million yuan.
The court has adjourned to decide on the pair’s sentences.
