Murder ruled out of CCTV plunge
BEIJING police ruled out the possibility of murder in their investigations into the death of a cleaner who plunged 45 stories at the new headquarters of China Central Television (CCTV), local sources confirmed yesterday.
The dead cleaner, a 23-year-old man surnamed Wang from north China's Hebei Province, belonged to the Sanfengyijia Decoration Co Ltd, said a policeman who declined to be named.
It is unknown yet if he fell by accident or if the death was a suicide, he said.
Wang, who was operating the lift for other cleaners, fell from the top of the 45-story A tower in the CCTV complex at about 3:30pm on Sunday.
The new CCTV building, dubbed "the giant shorts," cost about 5 billion yuan (US$714 million) and is among the most controversial new buildings in Beijing.
A separate 30-story building, also part of the new CCTV complex, was badly damaged in a fire on February 10.
