Murderous doctor executed
A former doctor who killed eight children at the gate of a primary school was executed today in east China's Fujian Province.
The Supreme People's Court approved Zheng Minsheng's death sentence and he was shot in Nanping City. Zheng was sentenced to death by Nanping Intermediate People's Court for the March 23 massacre at Nanping Experimental Primary School in Fujian Province.
The 42-year-old former doctor at a local community clinic admitted in court that he murdered eight children and severely injured five others because he was frustrated in work and relationships.
Zheng appealed the first death sentence and asked for leniency, which was rejected by Nanping's Higher Court. Zheng said in his second trial that he murdered the children to draw attention to the unfairness in society.
The unmarried former doctor lived with his mother and was just dumped by his girlfriend before he lashed out in the frenzied knife attack.
His neighbors said Zheng appeared to be an honorable person and children liked him but his personality suddenly changed after he quit his job.
Prosecutors said Zheng's failure in relationships and in his career had made his life "meaningless." They said Zheng had no history of mental illness, according to a former report.
