Musical talent gets US chance
CHINA’S National Youth Orchestra has announced its first annual program to encourage young talent to apply for training and to go on tour in the United States.
About 100 young artists will be selected for the two-week free program under the guidance of 15 teachers, led by Ludovic Morlot of the Seattle Symphony and Cai Jindong of Stanford University’s Symphony Orchestra.
At the end of their training, the young musicians will play in some of the world’s most famous concert halls, including New York’s Carnegie Hall.
The National Youth Orchestra was established in 1948.
“We are dedicated to providing world-class education resources and stage platforms for talented young musicians here, and to help them show the world what they can do,” said Vincent Accettola, creative director of NYO-China.
Applications are open at http://nyochina.org from Saturday to February 28 for Chinese applicants aged 14-19 for strings or percussions and 14-20 for brass. Winners will head to Western Connecticut State University in July.
