Myanmar leader's visit
MYANMAR'S top leader General Than Shwe arrived in Beijing yesterday for a state visit.
Than Shwe is expected to brief China on nationwide elections on November 7 which Myanmar says is a key step in shifting to civilian rule after five decades of military domination.
He will meet President Hu Jintao, Premier Wen Jiabao and other Chinese officials in Beijing. He will also visit the Shanghai World Expo.
A Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman said: "We hope the international community can provide constructive help to the Myanmar election and refrain from making any negative impact on the domestic political process and the regional peace and stability."
