Myth surrounds the death of a peasant seeking compensation
Jane ChenA WOMAN died while seeking compensation from an oil drilling team for causing pollution to her farm. The team's officials said she was killed when a wall was bulldozed at the site. However, her family suspected she was beaten to death.
Police has detained the bulldozer driver for questioning, today's China Business Review reported.
Shi Haihua, a 40-year-old peasant in Zichang County, Shaanxi Province, went to the oil drilling work site to demand compensation on July 21 after finding her fields had been polluted by the drilling work, her family said.
She died half an hour later.
Her three children went to the county government to demand a settlement of the issue, but an 18-year-old son was detained by police for unknown reason, the newspaper quoted her family as saying.
